CHILDREN will be flying their newly-made kites on the Downs tomorrow, as part of planned school holiday events.
The day will involve a mini-beast safari followed by a series of meadow games. In the afternoon, the children will build their own kite and then fly it in a mini kite festival.
The summer activities are being organised as part of the Avon Gorge & Downs Wildlife Project.
Other events include a treasure hunt along the wildflower trail and a ladybird spotting event.
The events are for eight to 12-year-olds and spaces are still available for the last two activities. To book a place, call Mandy Leivers or Ben Garrod on 903 0609, or visit the website www.avongorge.

Finding the new face of their baby and toddler range for supermarket giant Asda was one of the toughest tasks we’ve ever faced.
Eventually we chose five-month-old Cody Tyrell and now he’ll appear on promotional material in the stores’ baby, toddler and George aisles. Little Cody will receive a EUR1,447 Child Trust Fund. Doting mum Charlene, 25, wins EUR482 worth of Asda shopping and EUR301 for a shopping spree at George – and pamper day for two people at Nirvana Spa. So meet Cody… and the cutest runners-up ever!
Taylor Griffiths, 21 months, from Bolton
Mum Julie France, 41, said: “He’s a great little lad, a bit of a cheeky chap actually, and it looks like we’re just heading for the terrible twos with him!
“He’s got tons of personality and he loves other kids so he’s managed to keep us smiling through it all. We’re really proud of him.”
Skye Northern, 10 months, from Peterborough, Cambs
Mum Cheryll Hastie, 31, says: “Skye is my little angel and this is really exciting for us. Skye’s a really talkative, cheerful child and she absolutely adores her big sister Piper, who is three. She follows her all over the place and they have lots of fun together.”
Macy Mae, one, from Kirkby in Liverpool
Mum Michelle Williams, 34, says: “She’s such a little tomboy so it’s great she’s so pretty too. We always get stopped by people saying how gorgeous she is. Beautiful big eyes like Macy’s stop people in their tracks.”
Tahira Isis Crookendale, eight months, from Manchester

Proud dad Nick, 35, says: “Theo is a great little chap, really smiley and happy. He’s our first so we’re dead proud anyway, but this is brilliant. People always stop us in the street to say what a gorgeous little boy he is, and I agree! I’m not exaggerating – he’s a real stunner and we can’t walk down the road without someone saying how cute he is.”

Payment Protection Insurance – is this the biggest "Bank Robbery" in history? WEALTH WARNING – LOAN & CREDIT CARD SCANDAL: ADVERTISEMENT FEATURE

Payment Protection Insurance (PPI) policies are designed to cover the cost of loan or credit card repayments in the event that the customer is off sick from work or has b e c o m e unemployed. However, Renaissance Easy Claim, a leading financial complaints company, is warning that many people were sold policies they didn’t want or need and so could be due compensation.
Andy Humphries, Managing Director of Renaissance explains, “The main problems with PPI are that many people don’t really need the policy they have; the numerous exclusions on the policy mean they may not be able to claim at all; and that the benefit is restricted to a set period of time -usually 12 months. Many customers did not even know they were being sold the policy, or thought they had to have it to get the loan or credit card.
“In 2005 the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) estimated there were 20 million policies with around 7 million new policies being sold each year. That means, on average, each household in the country has one of these policies.
“In their report, the CAB identified what they said to be widespread mis-selling and consumers paying over the odds for the policies, with only 15% – 20% ever making a claim under the policy. Little wonder they called their report ‘Protection Racket’!
“It’s been estimated that about 60% of PPI policies were related to personal loans and most were sold by the high street banks and building societies. A typical premium, for a 5 year loan of pounds 10,000, was over pounds 2,000. As this was normally charged as a single premium and added to the loan, the banks would charge interest on it as well. That could take the total cost to pounds 2,500 or m o r e . Even if someone was unfortunate enough to need to make a claim because they lost their job, but fortunate enough t o e s c a p e t h e exclusions on the policy, then the cover would typically only cover the loan repayments for a year. If they claimed for a full year, the repayments may well have been less than the total cost of the policy

Homebuilders feuding with their insurer They say the board pads its

ATLANTA — Already reeling from a credit crunch and economic slowdown, residential contractors now find themselves in the middle of a fight between their trade association and the company that sells the worker’s compensation coverage they are required to carry.
This week, members of the board of the Home Builders Association of Georgia voted to sponsor a coup to topple the leadership of the insurance company the trade group spawned in 1992. They’ll urge their members to use their positions as policyholder-owners of the mutual insurance company to vote out Builders Insurance’s board for padding their compensation, reducing dividends and withholding money from the association.
For its part, Builders Insurance says the fight is over the association’s inability to charge yearly dues of $400-750 once the insurer stopped requiring policyholders to join the trade group in April. Now they can buy coverage if they pay dues of just $60 to a rival organization, the Contractors Benefit Association.
Also in April, the company stopped paying royalties to the Home Builders, a 28 percent loss in the association budget.
Bill Beazley, owner of Bill Beazley Homes Inc. of Augusta, is among those revolting because he contends Builders Insurance directors — including four former association presidents — are looting the company through their overcompensation. Beazley served on the insurance board when it was founded to provide a reliable and affordable source of coverage for contractors during a weak economy.
He said association members weren’t paying attention as the company changed because of who the directors were.
“You can’t imagine how these guys were respected, so respected you didn’t question them,” he said. “… Greed is like dope

TOAD-spotters are snapping up Larkin trail maps faster than expected.
More than a week since the amphibian sculptures hit city streets, almost 30,000 guides have been collected and officials say they are about to run out.
Larkin With Toads project manager Clare Huby said: “We have had to order 30,000 more reprints because we were on our last 5,000 last Thursday.
“Last week, I took 400 copies to Prospect Centre and they were gone in three hours.
“We’ve had three people giving out the maps, but we are now talking to a marketing company to help us out.”
The 40 model toads mark the 25th anniversary of the death of former University Of Hull librarian and poet Philip Larkin.
Miss Huby said the toads project is an entry point into discovering the works of Larkin.
She said: “From reading the first lines on the guide, people have gone to libraries to look at Larkin’s poems, so the toads are acting as a starting point.”
Miss Huby said the toads’ popularity had blazed a trail for other unusual arts projects in the city. She said: “The way people have taken to the Larkin trail will form a future for more off-the-wall ideas.”
The colourful fibreglass amphibians can be spotted, free of charge, at 40 different locations in the region from The Deep’s reception in Hull to Flemingate in Beverley.
The region’s tourism board, Visit Hull and East Yorkshire (VHEY), believes the figures are bringing more people to the region.
VHEY chief executive Janet Reuben said: “The Larkin With Toads trail is proving extremely popular with visitors and local people alike – and is providing interesting photo opportunities.
“This unusual and evocative art installation is a wonderful addition to East Yorkshire’s superb array of attractions.
“I urge everyone to go along and pay them a visit.”
The Larkin Trail was launched on June 17 and will stay in the city for ten weeks.
Maps are available at city shopping centres, the tourist information centre, libraries and businesses close to the sculptures. They can also be downloaded from the Larkin25 website.

In some ports they refused to pay the tax or offload ships. There was a boycott on tea with women becoming leaders in the movement.
A Lady?s Adieu to Her Tea-Table
FAREWELL the Tea-board with your gaudy attire,
Ye cups and ye saucers that I did admire;
To my cream pot and tongs I now bid adieu;
That pleasure?s all fled that I once found in you.
Farewell pretty chest that so lately did shine,
With hyson and congo and best double fine;
Many a sweet moment by you I have sat,
Hearing girls and old maids to tattle and chat;
And the spruce coxcomb laugh at nothing at all,
Only some silly work that might happen to fall.
No more shall my teapot so generous be
In fillin the cups with this pernicious tea,
For I?ll fill it with water and drink out the same,
Before I?ll lose LIBERTY that dearest name,
Because I am taught (and believe it is fact)
That our ruins is aimed at in the late act,
Of imposing a duty on all foreign teas,
Which detestable stuff we can quit when we please.
LIBERTY?S the Goddess that I do adore,
And I?ll maintain her right until my last hour,
Before she shall part I will die in the cause
For I?ll never be govern?d by tyranny?s laws.
